July 2018 - Sydney Morning Herald - Join the jet setters for the ultimate holiday

We’ve all laughed at the dream travel itineraries some foreigners conjure when discussing their Australian bucket list.

‘‘I’d love to see the Great Barrier Reef, head to Uluru the following day, speed by that crazy Coober Pedy opal town and dart up to Sydney for a day before flying out. Oh, and squeeze in a quick trip to Melbourne, too.’’

‘‘You have no idea of distances,’’we snigger. ‘‘Our country is bigger than Europe.’’ Yet it seems a growing number of inbound travellers are nowhaving the last laugh, fitting in more during aweek of sightseeing than many locals can hope to see of our country in a lifetime.

Tucked away in alleyways and around corners are masterpieces ranging from simple graffiti “tagging” to more complex, and sometimes commissioned by city government, building-sized murals. These free-range art experiences, mostly done in two-dimensions, can be experienced while casually strolling and enjoying the city’s other famous scene—the coffee culture. Order up a flat white and read on to learn more about street art and where to find it in this iconic metropolis “Down Under.”
